CCTV from dozens of villages showed the same pick-up van at every spot. Police caught it unloading buffaloes at a meat export unit on the city's edge, and a fortnight of factory CCTV showed the vehicle repeatedly delivering stolen buffaloes. The station officer then set the buffalo loose on the road and said whoever it followed would be the owner. It walked towards Nandlal's village.²
